André 3000 announces long-awaited solo project that has a surprising twist. No lyrics.
Every blue moon André 3000 may make a rare appearance that always warms the hearts of many who adore him musically.
The OutKast mogul shocked social media on Tuesday (November 14) when he announced his new album, New Blue Sun. Mouths fell to the floor when he revealed that the album’s release date is this Friday (November 17).
It’s been about 20 years since he released solo material and it seems the project is not what we all expected it to be.
The Album Has No Lyrics!
NPR reports that the eight-track album doesn’t feature any vocals. The album seems to be an instrument-lead soundtrack where André showcases his talent playing the flute. Listeners can expect instrumental contributions from Jazz musicians such as Carlos Niño, Surya Botofasina and Nate Mercereau.

Most of the talking is done through the title of the records. André explained the lengthy titles derive from wanting to humanize the project.
“They were long on purpose because I knew if this album has no lyrics, then I would try to give as much thought or information in the titles. I guess the rapper in me, like, I’m trying to humanize it or punkatize or like make it less precious, but at the same time we’re human. So we laugh. I was trying to really inject some type of humanness because I’m a full-rounded person.”

Why Did André Name The Album New Blue Sun
André’s reasoning for naming the album New Blue Sun implies new beginnings and new directions.
“New Blue Sun, for me, was like, I guess in a sci-fi way, the new world or the next beings will be under a bluer, cooler burning sun. It will burn cooler, but it will be larger.
So when you look up at the sky in these times, there’ll be this larger globe of bluish, but still bright but bluish because it’s cooler. It’s kind of like this whole album and this whole direction is a new world for me. New Blue Sun is like a new direction.”
